Swarovski (sworr-off-skee) is the brand name of cut crystal and other luxury products produced by Swarovski AG in Austria.
Daniel Swarovski born October 24, 1862, formerly Daniel Swartz, was born in northern in the Czech Republic. His father was a glass cutter who owned a small glass factory. It was there that he served an apprenticeshi, becoming skilled in the art of glass-cutting. In 1892 he patented an electric cutting machine that facilitated the production of crystal glass.
In 1895, Swarovski financier Armand Kosman and Franz Weis founded the Swarovski company, now known as K.S. & C. The company established a crystal cutting factory in Austri, to take advantage of local hdroelectricity for the energy-intensive grinding processes Daniel Swarovski patented.
Swarovski crystals set the standard for cut, clarity, brilliance and consistency. A huge variety of color is available and new color come out every 6 months. The crystal is fired using a combination of natural minerals and quartz sand, then slowly cooled to avoid stress and inclusions. Each crystal is handled with care and delicacy.
